Perverted
Utopia

Master Project

This exhibition explores the meaning of the term perversion in a political context. In traditional sense perversion is a type of sexual behavior that is considered abnormal and unacceptable. What this exhibition points out is that the same meaning could (and should) be attached, rather to the behavior of the political figures in the West Balkan societies.
If the perversion is considered to be distortion or corruption of the original meaning, or state of something there is no reason for it to be reserved strictly to the sexual type of behavior.
Term Utopia has been a subject of manipulation by political structures in the last 30 years in the Balkans. It’s a term that's been used as a promise for decades, and it somehow remains hope in people. Name „Perverted Utopia“ contradicts itself and alludes to the disturbed reality of the present moment, while waiting for utopia to come.
